Bishop Walter Smith Jr.

Bishop Walter Smith Jr. acknowledged his call into the gospel ministry on Thanksgiving day 1981, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Allen Evans Jr.  Prior to his call into the ministry he served as a deacon, superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and as president of the pastor’s choir.

On the first Sunday of January 1983, Rev. Walter Smith Jr. joined the New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church and worked diligently by the side of Rev. George E. Mahin.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]On the first Sunday of August 1984, Rev. Walter Smith Jr. became the senior pastor of New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church upon the resignation of rev. George E. Mahin.  The church joined the Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship and Rev. Smith was appointed State Overseer of the State of Kentucky for the Full Gospel Baptist Fellowship Conference in 1995.  On June 16th, 1999 Rev. Smith was appointed Bishop and on November 12th, 1999 he was consecrated as Bishop for the State of Kentucky.

Bishop Smith is married to the former Pernilla Scott and they are parents of four children; Penny, Tiffany, Theresa, and Walter.

After 36 years of faithful service to New Horizon, Bishop Smith chose to retire and pass the mantle to one of his sons in ministry Rev. Ja’mel Armstrong.
